Alibaba's Accio AI cuts e-commerce costs by more than half versus major rivals
In a benchmark of 107 e-commerce activities, Accio achieved a total estimated cost of $3.69, while OpenAI Codex and Claude Code each cost around $9.30. Alibaba.com said the savings stem from tailoring the system to commerce needs and offering a unified workspace for tasks such as market research, sourcing and daily operations. The company unveiled an expanded version that links directly to platforms like Amazon, Shopify, eBay, TikTok Shop and Walmart. Accio’s benchmark suite, Commerce Agent Bench, has also been released as open-source software on GitHub.
Alibaba.com announced that its Accio agentic AI platform reduces the cost of completing e-commerce workflows by more than half compared with leading general-purpose models. A test covering 107 distinct tasks showed Accio’s total expense at $3.69, versus $9.27 for OpenAI Codex and $9.51 for Anthropic’s Claude Code, while delivering comparable performance. The efficiency is attributed to a system optimized for commerce, providing a single workspace that supports market research, product development, supplier evaluation and routine operational tasks.
Accio now integrates with major marketplaces such as Amazon, Shopify, eBay, TikTok Shop and Walmart, allowing sellers to manage workflows from one interface. Alibaba also made its Commerce Agent Bench benchmark open source on GitHub, featuring real merchant activities like email analysis, fraud detection, landed-cost calculation and multi-carrier shipping booking.
