Alison Davis acquitted of husband’s murder as police wonder if dog hid the weapon

In August 2023, Kevin and Alison Davis came back to their New Haven, Indiana residence after an evening out, and an argument allegedly led to Kevin’s fatal plunge down a staircase. First responders reported a large blood pool, and Alison alerted detectives that their pit-bull mix Willow guarded the upstairs bedroom. Detectives entered the home, heard the dog but found no obvious weapon, concluding the death was an accident.

Later, Indiana authorities charged Alison with murder, alleging she used an improvised blunt object, though none was ever recovered. After serving 17 months in jail, Alison stood trial and was acquitted after a brief six-hour deliberation. Police chief James Krueger still speculates that Willow may have been placed to keep officers out of a room that could have held the missing weapon. Alison now lives with her parents, still accompanied by Willow.
