Brewers Fayre will shut its 89 UK and Northern Ireland locations on September 7, ending a 45-year presence on the high street.
After 45 years of serving British diners, Brewers Fayre will close all 89 of its restaurants in the UK and Northern Ireland on September 7. The decision is part of Whitbread’s new five-year strategy that aims to cut costs by £250 million and includes the termination of its Beefeater chain and the Bar + Block concept. Chief executive Dominic Paul said the move is intended to deliver higher profits and returns for the group.
Whitbread anticipates a reduction of roughly 3,800 roles from its roughly 30,000-strong UK and Ireland workforce, though it plans to redeploy many employees where possible. The company also intends to sell about £1.5 billion of freehold properties, lowering its owned portfolio share from about 50 % to 30 %. A partnership with Queensway Hospitality Group will see about 53 sites rebranded under a new concept.
