All eight Slovak regional governors re-elected as incumbents and opposition split the vote
Incumbent governors in Slovakia's eight regions were returned to office, with the ruling coalition keeping two seats and the opposition winning four.
Slovakia completed its regional elections, confirming the incumbents in all eight administrative areas. The ruling coalition linked to Prime Minister Robert Fico managed to hold onto two governorships, whereas the parliamentary opposition aligned with Western policies secured four. Independent candidates preserved control of the other two regions.
A notable contest unfolded in the eastern Prešov region, where Christian Democratic Movement chairman Milan Majerský won with more than 48% against a Republic party challenger who earned 35%. The Republic party, part of the Europe of Sovereign Nations Group, is currently the country's third-largest party in polls. Additionally, opposition figure Matúš Vallo was re-elected for a third term as mayor of Bratislava.
