All ten convicted in 2013 Chhattisgarh Maoist massacre receive death sentences
A special NIA court in Jagdalpur sentenced the ten people convicted for the 2013 Jhiram Valley Maoist attack, which killed 29, to death.
More than thirteen years after Maoists struck the Congress' Parivartan Rally in Jhiram Valley, a special NIA court in Jagdalpur delivered death sentences to all ten defendants. Judge Abhay Singh Rajput oversaw the trial, which concluded that the accused, among them two women, were responsible for the May 25, 2013 ambush on a national highway under Darbha police station limits. The attack killed 29 people, including state Congress chief Nand Kumar Patel, his son Dinesh, former Leader of Opposition Mahendra Karma, former Union minister Vidya Charan Shukla and senior leader Uday Mudliyar, and wounded over 30 others.
Defence lawyer Arvind Choudhary confirmed the convictions. The ruling marks a decisive legal response to one of the most lethal incidents linked to left-wing extremism in the region.
