Allison Janney ties record with eighth Emmy for supporting drama role

During the 78th Emmy Awards, Allison Janney was presented with the outstanding supporting actress in a drama trophy for her role on “one outlet,” marking her eighth career Emmy and tying the record for most wins by a performer alongside Jean Smart, Cloris Leachman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. In her acceptance speech she expressed surprise and gratitude, highlighting contributions from writer Debra Kahn, director Alex Gray, co-star Keri Russell and the full cast, notably Rufus Sewell.

The event took place at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles and was aired on one outlet and the Peacock streaming platform, with Mariska Hargitay serving as host. “one outlet” also received nominations in several other categories, while “The Pitt” and “Hacks” led the overall nomination counts. Janney’s win adds to previous Emmys for “The West Wing,” “Mom,” and a guest appearance on “Masters of Sex,” bringing her total nominations to 16.
