Allstate CEO urges firms to prioritize quantum computing over AI hype
Allstate chief Thomas J. Wilson warned business leaders to shift focus from artificial intelligence to quantum computing, saying early investment will yield major advantages.
In a recent address, Thomas J. Wilson, the CEO and president of Allstate, cautioned corporate executives to look beyond the prevailing AI frenzy and begin preparing for quantum computing. He argued that quantum machines can tackle calculations that traditional computers and current AI models cannot handle efficiently. Allstate already maintains a dedicated quantum research group of ten experts, focusing on applying the technology to complex risk assessment and more precise insurance pricing.
Wilson warned that firms delaying a quantum strategy may miss out on competitive gains once the technology becomes viable, drawing a parallel to the swift adoption of generative AI. He emphasized the importance of developing internal expertise and adapting existing infrastructure so it can seamlessly connect to future quantum systems. The message was framed as a call to action: “Get on the train” before the quantum wave passes.
Why it matters
Businesses that ignore quantum computing may fall behind competitors as the technology reshapes complex problem solving.
