Alperia appointments spark centre-right clash as unions demand €500 energy bonus for families

The board of Alperia approved new presidents for its subsidiaries, triggering a dispute between Lega and Fratelli d’Italia, while the ASGB union is pressing the provincial government for a one-off €500 bonus to help households with soaring energy costs.

The Alperia board gave the green light to new presidents for all its subsidiaries, assigning compensation packages to the roles, though specific amounts were not disclosed. The appointments ignited a sharp clash between Lega and Fratelli d’Italia, with Lega’s city coordinator Roberto Selle condemning the latter for reneging on earlier pacts and declaring an end to their cooperation. At the same time, the ASGB union, led by Tony Tschnett, is demanding that the provincial administration introduce a €500 one-off bonus for households below a certain income level to offset the near-doubling of electricity and gas prices.

Tschnett also urged the province to boost rent subsidies, restore commuter allowances, and expand eligibility for other social supports. He emphasized that the province already has mechanisms in place that could be used without additional bureaucracy. These proposals are slated for discussion in one outlet budget deliberations.

Why it matters

The dispute over Alperia appointments and the union's bonus demand could shape South Tyrol's energy policy and affect household finances.
