Alycia Baumgardner moves up to challenge IBF lightweight champion Elif Nur Turhan
Alycia Baumgardner will step into the lightweight division on Nov. 8 to fight IBF champion Elif Nur Turhan in Arlington, Texas.
Unified super featherweight titleholder Alycia Baumgardner is scheduled to contest the IBF lightweight crown held by unbeaten Elif Nur Turhan on November 8 at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. The bout, headlining the MVPW-07 card, marks Baumgardner’s first foray into the 135-pound division. A victory would crown her a champion in two weight classes and bring her closer to a high-profile unification clash with Caroline Dubins, who holds the WBC and WBO lightweight belts.
Baumgardner has previously dismissed Dubins as not yet at her level, while Dubins has publicly challenged her. The event’s co-main will see England’s Ellie Scotney take on Tiara Brown for the WBC featherweight title, and other fights will be broadcast on one outlet. Organizers Nakisa Bidarian and Jake Paul promoted the card as one of boxing’s biggest championship nights.
Why it matters
The fight could reshape the lightweight division and set up a major unification showdown.
