Amazon adds AI-driven alerts to Alexa for proactive shopping cues

Amazon unveiled a new Alexa for Shopping feature called “Update Me When,” which sends users personalized notifications about new products or events that might spark a purchase.

Amazon rolled out a fresh addition to its Alexa for Shopping AI assistant, named “Update Me When,” which notifies consumers when relevant new items or events appear that could lead to a purchase. The service can be set up to watch for things like a favorite brand’s product line debut, the release of a TV series season, an artist’s tour announcement, a new book from a preferred author, or a tech gadget launch. By shifting from reactive answers to proactive alerts, Alexa now anticipates shopping triggers before users ask.

Configuration of these alerts currently requires manual setup, though Amazon may later suggest subscriptions automatically as shoppers browse. The feature joins a suite of Alexa shopping functions, including price-watch alerts that can automatically buy an item once it reaches a target price or discount, personalized deal sourcing, cart building from past orders, pricing history views, AI-generated product overviews, and voice-to-text list transcription.

Why it matters

It gives shoppers proactive AI notifications, potentially changing how consumers discover and act on new products.
