Amazon and Constellation Energy lock in 20-year nuclear power pact for Maryland

Constellation Energy and Amazon.com announced a 20-year power purchase agreement aimed at expanding the Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant in Maryland. The contract is expected to drive over $3 billion in state infrastructure investment, delivering roughly 190 MW of new clean-energy capacity between 2030 and 2032. Under the agreement, Amazon will purchase 690 MW of power from Calvert Cliffs, which has a total capacity of 1,790 MW, and will also enter a retail supply deal covering its operations in the 13-state PJM market.

Amazon’s long-term commitment is projected to support Constellation’s effort to renew the plant’s operating license for another two decades and could facilitate the development of advanced nuclear and other clean-energy projects at the site. Calvert Cliffs currently supplies about 80 % of Maryland’s clean electricity, enough for more than 1.3 million homes.
