Amazon commits $3 billion to accelerate quick-commerce expansion in India
Amazon will invest $3 billion to grow its quick-commerce network in India, aiming to add hundreds of small warehouses by 2030.
Amazon announced a $3 billion investment programme to scale its quick-commerce operations in India through 2030, with $1 billion slated for completion by 2027 and an additional $2 billion thereafter. The capital will be used to build dozens of small neighbourhood warehouses that feed the Amazon Now platform, as well as to enhance inventory management systems and AI-driven demand forecasting. Recent figures show the quick-commerce division generated more than $1 billion in annualised gross sales in the last three months, marking its fastest growth in Amazon India's history.
The sector, valued at $19 billion today, is projected to exceed $40 billion by 2030, while local players Blinkit, Swiggy and Zepto hold about 77 % of market share. Amazon currently commands roughly 6 % of the market and targets around 1,300 stores by next April, up from about 750 now. Industry observers note the challenge of matching rivals’ service quality and customer loyalty.
Why it matters
The investment could reshape India's fast-delivery market and intensify competition for local quick-commerce firms.
