Amazon exits MMO publishing, passing Lost Ark and Throne & Liberty to new partners

Amazon, which earlier revealed the closure timeline for its own MMO New World, confirmed it will also cease publishing the western versions of Lost Ark and Throne & Liberty. Publishing rights for Throne & Liberty will move to NC, operating via its subsidiary FireSpark Games, starting in the fourth quarter of 2026. Smilegate will become the new publisher for Lost Ark in early 2027.

Both games will remain accessible to current players, but certain assets—such as Lost Ark's in-game mail and chat history and possibly auction-house items in Throne & Liberty—may not transfer. This transition marks Amazon's complete withdrawal from the MMO market, a venture it entered with New World in 2016. The company now plans to concentrate on casual titles for its Luna platform and promote its streaming-games subscription as a Prime perk.
