Amazon Prime raises Australian monthly fee to $12.99, a 30% increase
Amazon Prime is increasing its Australian subscription price from $9.99 to $12.99 per month starting November 25, with the annual plan also rising to $99.
Effective November 25, Amazon Prime will charge Australian customers $12.99 each month, up from $9.99, representing a 30% increase. New subscribers are already being billed at the new rate, and the yearly membership will rise from $79 to $99. The company attributes the price change to a broader range of products and services, including free overnight delivery before 8 am in several cities and expanded same-day delivery across nine regions.
Additional streaming series, movies, and sports have also been added, along with exclusive member discounts. A spokesperson emphasized that while the price is higher, the suite of Prime benefits remains the same and offers greater value than before.
Why it matters
The fee hike affects millions of Australian shoppers and signals Amazon's push to fund expanded services.
