Amazon's 2026 Kindle Aluminum Offers Premium Look at a Steep Price

Amazon introduced a new aluminum-cased Kindle that doubles storage and adds two vivid colors, but its higher price and limited features raise questions about value.

Amazon's latest Kindle lineup includes a new aluminum version of the base model, priced around $190 and offering 32 GB of storage versus 16 GB on the plastic variant. The device retains the 12th-generation 6-inch display but adopts a slimmer, flush-front design and a heavier aluminum back, weighing 5.7 oz compared to 4.9 oz for the plastic model. Available in Seaglass Green and Alpine Sky, the aluminum Kindle draws attention for its premium finish, though it does not provide warm-tone front lighting or the auto-adjusting light present on the Paperwhite and Colorsoft Signature Editions.

It supports two AI features from the Kindle Scribe line and works with the Kindle Click remote, but it cannot use the new $80 Page Turn Cover. Reviewers note faster book opening and a marginally warmer light, yet question whether the aesthetic upgrades justify the higher cost for most users.

Why it matters

Consumers must weigh the Kindle Aluminum's premium design against its limited feature set and higher price before upgrading.
