Ambassador-to-Greece nominee reportedly asked donor for $100k wire to personal account
Kimberly Guilfoyle, nominated as U.S. ambassador to Greece, requested donor Eric Deters to send $100,000 to her American Express account shortly before her Senate confirmation hearing.
According to reviewed messages, Kimberly Guilfoyle asked donor Eric Deters to wire $100,000 to her American Express account just days before her July 9 confirmation hearing for the Athens post. The appeal, sent via the Signal app on July 3, 2025, was declined by Deters, who said it would jeopardize his marriage. Their months-long dialogue showed Deters had floated as much as $1 million for personal tax and legal assistance from the administration, while Guilfoyle offered to press officials at the Justice Department and IRS and arrange an interview with Tucker Carlson.
Guilfoyle’s lawyer, Jesse Binnall, disputed the authenticity of the messages, claiming she was owed speaking-fee money. Democratic members, including Marco Rubio and Gregory Meeks, have called for scrutiny of her promotion of Aktor Group and travel with its lobbyist. The Senate confirmed Guilfoyle on September 18, 2025, and she assumed the ambassador role in November.
Why it matters
The allegation raises concerns about potential misuse of donor money and ethical lapses in a senior diplomatic appointment.
