Amber Alert issued for 14-year-old and fugitive father after infant found dead in Monterey County
California officials have launched an Amber Alert for a 14-year-old girl and her father, who fled after a newborn was discovered dead on a Monterey County road.
A newborn found dead on Aug. 1 along Struve Road in north Monterey County prompted an Amber Alert for the infant’s mother, a 14-year-old girl, and her father, Sergio Galvez Perez, who fled the scene. Perez, 38, is suspected of incest, rape, child endangerment and other felonies and was last seen driving a white Nissan Altima without license plates near Salinas on Aug. 4. While investigators initially listed the teen as a murder suspect, the Monterey County district attorney’s office clarified that no criminal filing has been made against her and emphasized she is a victim of her father’s abuse.
Police described the girl as having black hair, brown eyes, weighing about 100 pounds and standing 4 feet 10 inches tall, but could not confirm whether she is still alive. Detectives Nicholas Kennedy and Richard Geng are handling tips on the pair’s whereabouts.
