Amber heat-health alerts activated across most of England as temperatures rise

Amber heat-health alerts are now in force for nearly all of England, following a forecast of rising temperatures that could reach the low to mid-30s Celsius. The UK Health Security Agency notes that the alerts will remain until Friday evening, covering both high and potentially extreme heat. All English regions except the North East, which has a yellow alert, are included, as temperatures are predicted to climb above 30°C in parts of the Midlands, South Yorkshire, and east Wales.

The agency cautions that the heat could strain health and social care systems, especially for people over 65 or with medical conditions. Meanwhile, the National Drought Group reports that a large portion of England is in drought, with water restrictions affecting millions, and rainfall is not expected until later in the week.
