Ambulance services in 17 Romanian counties face funding shortfall for September
Seventeen county ambulance services in Romania have run out of money to cover September operating costs, prompting union leaders to demand urgent budget support.
According to one outlet Ambulance Trade Union, 17 county ambulance services in Romania have exhausted their budgets for September, leaving them unable to pay for essential items such as fuel, vehicle maintenance, medicines and sanitary materials. While salary payments are guaranteed through the end of November, the shortfall threatens day-to-day operations. Union head Gheorghe Chiș has appealed for a budget amendment of roughly 90 million lei to cover the fourth quarter.
The Ministry of Health intends to use a special emergency reserve to settle urgent expenses and keep services running. Union officials warn that without swift additional funding, ambulance providers may have to limit assistance to only the most critical emergencies after October 1.
