AMD unveils high-end Threadripper Halo workstation for on-site AI research

AMD announced the Threadripper Halo, a workstation equipped with up to 576 GB of HBM3e memory and 16 TB/s bandwidth, aimed at researchers who can afford a premium local AI platform.

At the IFA 2026 show, AMD introduced the Threadripper Halo, a liquid-cooled workstation targeting AI researchers with deep pockets. It houses a 96-core Threadripper PRO 9995WX processor, up to 2 TB of DDR5 RAM, and can be fitted with up to four Instinct MI350P accelerators, each offering 144 GB of HBM3e and up to 4.6 petaFLOPS of FP4 compute. Combined, the system provides up to 576 GB of HBM3e and 16 TB/s of memory bandwidth, sufficient for running trillion-parameter models at four-bit precision entirely in GPU memory.

AMD expects a price tag of roughly $100,000-$150,000 and warns that the full configuration may exceed the capacity of a standard North American outlet unless power is limited or a dedicated 20-amp circuit is installed. The Halo aims to challenge Nvidia’s DGX Station, which costs about $100,000 and offers less memory capacity and bandwidth. Availability is slated for next year.
