American Airlines 737-800 aborts takeoff at LaGuardia after bird collision
A bird strike forced an American Airlines Boeing 737-800 to halt its takeoff from LaGuardia Airport, delaying departures.
An American Airlines flight bound for Chicago O’Hare was forced to stop its takeoff roll at LaGuardia Airport after a bird struck the aircraft around 8:20 a.m. The Boeing 737-800 crew initiated an abort, and the Federal Aviation Administration reported the incident. LaGuardia has logged 94 bird strikes so far this year, part of a broader pattern of wildlife encounters dating back to 1990. The abort added to weather-related delays, pushing average departure wait times to about 45 minutes.
FAA officials have opened an investigation into the Thursday morning event. The incident recalls the 2009 US Airways Flight 1549 “Miracle on the Hudson,” when a flock of Canada geese disabled both engines.
