American newlyweds and relatives identified among victims of Athens building collapse

Authorities have confirmed that newlyweds Ian Alexander Kirkpatrick and Florida Hoxha, along with Hoxha's brother Florin and his wife Eris Cani, were among those killed when an Airbnb building collapsed in Athens.

A tragic building collapse in Athens’ Plaka neighborhood on Sept. 25 claimed the lives of eight people, among them newlyweds Ian Alexander Kirkpatrick, 37, and Florida Hoxha, 34, who had been on their honeymoon. The disaster also killed Florida’s brother Florin Hoxha, 36, and his wife Eris Cani, who was five-and-a-half months pregnant. Two senior residents, Edmond Hings, 78, and his wife Athena Papaprescou, 77, also perished.

Authorities suspect a gas leak triggered an explosion that caused the two-story Airbnb to buckle. Greek officials are now inspecting adjacent buildings deemed dangerous to prevent further collapses.
