Amsterdam Centraal shuts down for a day as major renovation work begins
Train services at Amsterdam Centraal will be completely halted for one day to allow extensive renovation work, with reduced service on the following two days.
Amsterdam Centraal will experience a total suspension of train operations for one day as part of a major renovation effort coordinated by NS and ProRail. The shutdown is required to adjust signalling and safety systems so that track 11a can be brought back into use and track 14a taken out of service. Visible construction will involve platform extensions on tracks 13 and 14 and the widening of station entrances, while extensive behind-the-scenes work will address signalling and traffic-control installations.
After the full-day halt, train frequencies will be reduced for two subsequent days, leading to significant crowding during rush hour. The work marks a key milestone in the station’s long-term upgrade plan.
