Amsterdam man arrested in connection with ShinyHunters hacker investigation
Police detained a 24-year-old Amsterdam resident suspected of involvement with the ShinyHunters hacking group, and he will appear before a Rotterdam court.
Dutch authorities announced the arrest of a 24-year-old Amsterdam native suspected of ties to the ShinyHunters hacking collective. Identified as Pepijn van der S., the individual will face the Rotterdam court's council chamber on Tuesday. The hacker group has refuted any association with the suspect.
In 2023, van der S. was sentenced to four years in prison, with one year suspended, after being convicted of extortion, intimidation and habitual money-laundering. The ShinyHunters collective, active for six years, has targeted numerous large firms and public bodies, including a recent breach of Odido's customer contact system that led to a data leak after a ransom demand was refused.
