Amsterdam police seize A/I server after US legal request over alleged antifa links
Amsterdam police confiscated a server belonging to the Italian left-wing hosting provider Autistici/Inventati following a United States mutual-legal-assistance request, and are sending a copy of its data to US authorities.
A Dutch police unit seized a server from the Italian internet-service provider Autistici/Inventati (A/I) at a Science Park data centre, acting on a United States mutual-legal-assistance request. The US government, under the Trump administration, claims A/I enabled “antifa,” a term it regards as a terrorist organization, and designated the provider as terrorist in late August. Police are creating a digital image of the server’s contents and will forward that copy directly to the United States before returning the hardware.
The seizure follows the loss of A/I’s bank account and domain after the designation, prompting its volunteer staff to cease operations and begin dismantling the nonprofit. A/I had offered free web-hosting and email to roughly twenty-thousand groups worldwide, and its remaining European servers have been shut down and wiped. The incident underscores the reach of US legal requests into European digital infrastructure and raises concerns about liability for hosting services.
