Amsterdam suspect charged with murder after shooting prison employee on NDSM terrace
A 37-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder after fatally shooting a 61-year-old prison employee on the NDSM-kade in Amsterdam-Noord.
On a Friday in late September, a 37-year-old suspect opened fire on a terrace at the NDSM-kade in Amsterdam-Noord, killing a 61-year-old employee of the Zaanstad prison. The attack happened at approximately 15:05, near the ferry dock serving Central Station, and was witnessed by numerous by-standers. The victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after being shot.
Police apprehended the suspect almost immediately after the shooting. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the suspect had been incarcerated in the Zaanstad prison years earlier and was familiar with the victim from that period. The suspect has been charged with murder and placed in provisional detention for fourteen days by a judge, with a court appearance pending.
