Amy Hunt clinches 200m gold, eyes historic fourth European title

At the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, Britain’s Amy Hunt added a second gold to her tally by winning the women’s 200 metres in a season-best 22.19 seconds, overtaking teammate Dina Asher-Smith on the back straight. Hunt, who had already claimed the 100 metres on Monday, now aims to become the first competitor to capture four gold medals at a single edition of the tournament, with the women’s and mixed 4 × 100 metres relays still pending.

Ireland’s Rhasidat Adeleke recorded a new national record to earn silver, while Asher-Smith settled for bronze. After a difficult 200 metre earlier in the summer, Hunt said she was ready for a “renewal of our vows” and celebrated by raising her arms and pointing skyward, echoing Asher-Smith’s 2018 double. She described the week as “magical” and unforgettable.
