ANAF warns taxpayers of fake websites stealing personal and financial data

The National Agency for Fiscal Administration alerts the public to fraudulent sites that misuse its name to collect sensitive personal, tax and banking information.

The National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) has drawn attention to a wave of fraudulent websites that falsely display the agency’s name to harvest sensitive data from Romanian taxpayers. These sites solicit information including the personal numeric code, residential address, email, and banking details like account numbers, balances and monthly income. ANAF strongly advises the public to refrain from providing any personal, tax or banking information on such unofficial platforms and to avoid installing applications from anyone claiming to represent the agency.

Anyone who has inadvertently accessed these sites or shared data should promptly notify the appropriate authorities and, if necessary, their bank. The agency highlights its free, secure Virtual Private Space service for safe communication with ANAF and urges citizens to rely only on official channels for information.

Why it matters

Fraudulent sites can steal taxpayers' personal and financial data, leading to identity theft and financial loss.
