Analogue 3D Upscales N64 Classics to 4K, But Not True Native Resolution

The Analogue 3D can output 4K video for Nintendo 64 cartridges, using FPGA scaling to sharpen images without creating true 4K graphics.

Analogue’s 3D console reproduces the Nintendo 64 using an FPGA chip and provides a 4K HDMI output, yet it does not transform classic games into native 4K titles. Original N64 titles ran at resolutions like 320 × 240 or 640 × 480, and the 3D’s scaling pipeline cleans up blur, enhances texture filtering, and optionally doubles horizontal resolution before sending the signal to a 4K screen. The hardware also supports variable refresh rates, NTSC and PAL cartridges, and 1080p output alongside 4K. Designed for physical cartridges, it includes four controller ports, Bluetooth and USB controller compatibility, and is region-free, costing $250. Analogue recommends pairing the console with a 4K display to fully utilize its Original Display Modes, which aim to preserve the classic look while delivering a sharper picture.
