Anaya Bangar cleared to compete in Australian elite women's cricket from 2027

Cricket Australia announced that Anaya Bangar meets the criteria to participate in elite women’s cricket in Australia from March 2027, under its Inclusion of Transgender and Gender Diverse Players in Elite Cricket Policy. Bangar, who underwent gender-affirming surgery, described the ruling as an emotional milestone after fearing the end of her cricket career. She clarified that eligibility does not guarantee a Women’s Big Bash League contract; she must prove her fitness and form in Australian Premier Cricket and persuade a franchise in the overseas-player draft.

Bangar highlighted the need to work on batting, bowling, fielding and overall fitness to be considered. The policy allows her to play in any state or territory Premier Cricket competition while she pursues a WBBL spot. She hopes her journey will inform broader discussions on transgender inclusion in sport.
