ANCOM vice president accuses former premier Ilie Bolojan of false statements
Pavel Popescu, vice president of ANCOM, says Ilie Bolojan misrepresented the regulator’s budget request for an ITU council candidacy.
Pavel Popescu, serving as vice president of the National Authority for Communications Management and Regulation (ANCOM) and a former PNL member, publicly challenged statements by dismissed premier Ilie Bolojan. Bolojan had alleged that ANCOM prepared a substantial financial package for protocol activities in Arab states to support a candidate’s bid for a seat on the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) council. Popescu countered that the request, which had been available for public consultation since late September, concerned Romania’s own candidacy for the ninth consecutive ITU council term, not an individual from ANCOM.
He posted the official document showing the actual amount requested and noted that Bolojan removed the ordinance from the agenda during the final government meeting, effectively sabotaging the diplomatic push. Popescu also highlighted Bolojan’s approval of funds for Romania’s pavilion at the Francophonie Village during the Cambodia summit, describing it as contradictory behavior.
