Andalusian government launches emergency aid for Granada municipalities hit by quake swarm
The Junta de Andalucía approved an extraordinary financial assistance package for Granada and its metropolitan municipalities affected by the seismic swarm that began on 15 August.
In response to the seismic swarm that started on 15 August, the Junta de Andalucía's Council of Government approved an extraordinary aid program for Granada province and its metropolitan area. The measure creates a special economic cooperation line to finance the restoration of local public facilities damaged by the earthquakes. President Juanma Moreno is scheduled to visit Granada to announce a more extensive package of measures that have been coordinated with multiple regional departments, such as Education.
The declaration of an exceptional situation covers the period from 14 August to 7 September and focuses on the Vega de Granada municipalities, where damage is most severe according to a preliminary technical report. The regional emergency plan remains active, having moved to a recovery phase on 8 September, while minor aftershocks are still recorded. Authorities have conducted numerous building inspections, received thousands of communications, managed emergency calls, and operated a dedicated psychological support line for affected residents.
