The Andhra Pradesh government, the central government and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India signed a shareholders' agreement to invest ₹200 crore in upgrading four industrial training institutes in the Visakhapatnam cluster.
A shareholders' agreement was signed on Monday by the Andhra Pradesh government, the Union government and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India to channel ₹200 crore into the Visakhapatnam ITI cluster. A dedicated special purpose vehicle will manage the project, with AM/NS India holding a 51% stake and the two governments each holding 24.5%. The initiative falls under the Pradhan Mantri Skating and Employability Transformation through upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) scheme, whose National Steering Committee gave the first ever strategic investment approval for this cluster.
Upgrades will cover the Government ITI in Kancharapalem as the hub, extending resources to institutes in Visakhapatnam Industrial Estate, Bobbili and Narsipatnam, introducing modern equipment, new trades and enhanced instructor training. Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh said the effort will equip students with practical skills demanded by employers, supporting the state’s industrial growth. AM/NS India director Ashutosh Telang noted the partnership will combine the company's manufacturing experience with NAMTECH’s technical education expertise to boost student employability.
Why it matters
The deal links industry expertise with vocational training, aiming to improve job readiness for thousands of students in a key manufacturing region.
