Andrade and Nemour claim gold as Biles watches comeback drama in Rotterdam

Rebeca Andrade secured vault gold and Kaylia Nemour repeated as uneven-bars champion at the World Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam, while Simone Biles observed from the stands.

At the Rotterdam World Gymnastics Championships, Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade captured her third world vault gold with a 14.466 score, marking a successful comeback after a two-year break following the Paris Olympics. Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour defended her uneven-bars title, outscoring Germany’s Helen Kevric and USA’s Skye Blakely, who also earned bronze on the apparatus after winning the all-around on Friday. Simone Biles, seated in the Ahoy arena, praised the competitors and admitted the crowd’s energy made her feel nervous despite not competing since Paris.

The competition was missing Russia’s Angelina Melnikova, who was denied a Dutch visa. In the men’s finals, America’s Frederick Richard won floor exercise, Armenia’s Hamlet Manukyan took pommel-horse gold, and Japan’s Daiki Hashimoto, the all-around champion, finished eighth on pommel horse.

Why it matters

The victories highlight the return of top gymnasts and showcase emerging talent ahead of future Olympic cycles.
