András Szakonyi appointed new CEO of Magyar Posta
Economy Minister István Kapitány announced that András Szakonyi will lead Magyar Posta as its new chief executive.
On Thursday, Economy and Energy Minister István Kapitány announced via Facebook that András Szakonyi has been appointed as the new chief executive of Magyar Posta. The minister noted that the postal service’s success will hinge on its ability to adjust to a new market environment while preserving efficient operations. He pointed to Szakonyi’s roughly thirty-year career leading international corporations, including roles at GE, the New York-listed Iron Mountain, and Ferrovial, where he oversaw digital infrastructure projects.
Kapitány argued that a modern company’s strength lies in its reliability, whether serving the smallest village or the largest city, and that this requires both global experience and domestic commitment. The announcement follows Kapitány’s earlier replacement of Géza Láng as chairman of Magyar Posta, after which the board also terminated Láng’s CEO contract. Earlier in July, the company was in the news due to the deaths of two postal workers during extreme heat, prompting an immediate investigation ordered by the prime minister.
