Andrew Haigh Announces New Film A Long Winter After Success of All of Us Strangers

After All of Us Strangers garnered BAFTA nods for screenplay and directing and became Haigh’s highest-grossing work, the director faced a wave of new opportunities. He decided against a bigger, more visible project and instead returned to a story he first read in 2006, Colm Tóibín’s A Long Winter, which he has tried to adapt for years. The upcoming film, set in 1950s Colorado’s Rockies, follows teenage Mike, played by Fred Hechinger, as he copes with his father, brother’s departure to Korea, and his mother’s sudden disappearance.

Haigh shot the picture on film with cinematographer André Turpin, using a purpose-built house near Calgary, Canada, and production designer Emmanuel Fréchette. The cast includes Andrew Scott, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Kit Connor and Caitríona Balfe. A Long Winter will screen at the Toronto and New York film festivals and will be released in theaters via MUBI.
