Androulakis warns Trump-Putin deal undermines European peace efforts

At a pre-meeting of the European Socialist Party in Brussels, Nikos Androulakis said the recent Trump-Putin agreement is not a peace initiative but a form of transactional diplomacy.

In Brussels, the European Socialist Party’s pre-meeting featured remarks from Nikos Androulakis, president of PASOK-Movement of Change. He argued that the newly announced Trump-Putin agreement does not represent a genuine peace effort but rather a transactional form of diplomacy that disadvantages European peoples. Androulakis called for the EU to advance strategic autonomy in areas such as defence, foreign policy, manufacturing and energy supply.

He warned that the ongoing energy crisis is inflating household expenses and production costs, endangering the sustainability of many enterprises. The politician stressed that solidarity and joint initiatives are essential to mitigate these impacts and protect millions of Europeans. He framed collective European action as the only viable path forward.

Why it matters

The comments signal political pressure on the EU to adopt independent defence and energy policies amid global diplomatic tensions.
