Andy Weil Leaves Netflix After 11 Years to Lead Comedy at Amazon

Comedy development veteran Andy Weil is departing Netflix to become head of comedy for Amazon MGM Studios, starting September 14.

Andy Weil, who spent over 11 years overseeing comedy development at Netflix, is set to join Amazon MGM Studios as its new head of comedy, with a start date of September 14. He will report to Peter Friedlander, his former Netflix superior who now leads global TV for Amazon. Weil's résumé includes championing hit shows like Master of None, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Bojack Horseman and the Emmy-winning Black Mirror anthology.

Prior to Netflix, he held a vice-president role at Universal Television and led scripted programming at BermanBraun. Friedlander highlighted Weil's deep creative instincts and strong ties within the comedy community in a staff memo announcing the appointment.
