Angela Davis warns leftists to prepare for another revolutionary push

In a recent Brooklyn interview, Angela Davis argued that the 2020 Black Lives Matter uprising nearly toppled the U.S. system and urged Marxists to be ready for a future revolt.

Angela Davis, speaking at a Brooklyn public-library event and fielded by Jelani Cobb, described the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests as a near-successful attempt to overturn the American order, halted by a conservative backlash that reclaimed political power. She criticized the left for not preparing to confront counter-revolutionary moves in schools and cultural institutions, noting the rise of anti-CRT campaigns. Davis emphasized that democracy, in her view, must extend beyond voting to economic control, a goal she says remains unrealized.

She warned that another historic moment may emerge, urging Marxists to be better organized. The piece also referenced Manolo De Los Santos, leader of the People’s Forum, who recently called for renewed street protests, and highlighted ongoing disputes over DEI policies at the Smithsonian and other institutions.

Why it matters

The interview signals renewed radical calls that could influence future protest movements and political discourse in the U.S.
