Angkasa chief Abdul Fattah Abdullah wins ICA Board seat, keeping Malaysia in top cooperative leadership

At the ICA General Assembly in Panama, Angkasa president Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Fattah Abdullah secured a seat on the International Cooperative Alliance Board for the 2026-2030 term, ensuring Malaysia’s continued presence in the apex cooperative body. Fifteen board members were selected from 24 candidates, with seven incumbents and eight newcomers, including Abdullah. The vote involved 116 representatives from 193 ICA member organisations across 66 nations.

Re-elected ICA president Ariel Guarco of Argentina presided over the proceedings. Abdullah, who also leads the Asean Co-operative Organisation and serves as vice-president of ICA-Asia Pacific, said the role will amplify Malaysian cooperative voices on issues such as sustainable development and economic inclusion. He led a 25-person delegation comprising various Malaysian cooperatives and financial institutions to the conference, which was themed “Building Bridges: Cooperative Contribution for Peaceful World.”
