Angola's ANPG and ExxonMobil report new offshore oil discovery in Block 15

The National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels and ExxonMobil announced a new oil well, Vicango East-01, drilled about 370 km northwest of Luanda.

Angola's National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels, together with ExxonMobil and its partners, disclosed the drilling of a new exploratory well named Vicango East-01 in Block 15, located roughly 370 kilometres northwest of the capital. The well reached 940 metres deep on the Valaris DS-9 vessel and confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons. This marks the twentieth discovery in the block over thirty years and the third since the last four years.

ANPG's council president attributed the success partly to recent adjustments in the legal framework and state incentives. ExxonMobil Angola's president said the find underscores the continued offshore resource potential and the company's commitment to the region. The block is operated by ExxonMobil through Esso Exploration Angola Limited, holding a 36% stake alongside several partners.
