Anika Wells' Brisbane constituency office shut after threatening incident

The Brisbane office of MP Anika Wells was temporarily closed after a woman threatened staff and was arrested for public nuisance.

Around 10:20 am on Wednesday, police were called to the Brisbane office of federal communications and sport minister Anika Wells after a woman behaved threateningly toward employees. Officers arrested a 47-year-old woman at the Sandgate Road location in Nundah and later charged her with one count of public nuisance. In response, Wells announced a temporary closure of the office to implement additional security measures, while assuring that staff will keep answering calls from constituents.

The accused is scheduled to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on November 26. This security breach comes shortly after Indi MP Helen Haines was assaulted outside her electoral office in Wangaratta. Wells emphasized that the office will reopen as soon as safety can be guaranteed.
