Ann Hui to Receive Camellia Award at Opening of Busan Film Festival

At the opening of the 31st Busan International Film Festival, Ann Hui will receive the 2026 Camellia Award, a prize established jointly by the festival and Chanel to celebrate directors who have elevated women's status in the film industry. The ceremony is set for Oct. 6 at the Busan Cinema Center. Hui, a central figure of the Hong Kong New Wave, has been honored repeatedly, winning best director at the Hong Kong Film Awards six times and at the Golden Horse Awards three times.

She achieved a clean sweep of best film, director, actor and actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards for both "Summer Snow" in 1995 and "A Simple Life" in 2011. Her global recognitions include a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2012 Asian Film Awards, the Asian Filmmaker of the Year Award at BIFF 2014, and the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 2020 Venice International Film Festival. Hui expressed gratitude for the timing of the award as she approaches her eighties and noted her pleasure in returning to Busan for an audience she admires.
