Annapurna, the independent entertainment and media company started by Megan Ellison, disclosed that about 30 staff members were dismissed on Wednesday, amounting to over 15% of its total employees. The move follows a quiet revival effort after several years of near-dormancy, during which Ellison remained chief executive. A spokesperson told one outlet that the reduction reflects current business conditions and aims to reposition the firm for a changing market.
Annapurna, known for acclaimed auteur films such as "Her" and "Zero Dark Thirty," had previously taken on significant debt that Ellison personally settled in 2019. Recent reports noted the re-hire of early contributors Chelsea Barnard and Matthew Budman as part of the comeback strategy.
