Anne Hathaway Calls for R Rating on Films That Depict Dog Deaths

Anne Hathaway told Complex that any film depicting the killing of a dog should be assigned an R rating, independent of profanity or other violent content. She made the comment while promoting Warner Bros.’ “The End of Oak Street,” a sci-fi adventure where her character Denise protects her family from dinosaurs after their street travels back in time.

The trailer introduced Starbuck, the family’s dog, prompting speculation about the animal’s fate, which Hathaway addressed by saying the movie will not violate her suggested rule. She noted that viewers have been vocal about dog-kill scenes, citing the “John Wick” franchise as a reference point. Co-star Ewan McGregor and director David Robert Mitchell, with producer J.J. Abrams, are also attached to the project, which is now playing in theaters across the country.
