ANO tops six regional capitals while STAN gains ground in larger cities

The governing ANO movement won in six of the 13 regional capitals, while STAN performed well in the country’s biggest cities.

In the recent municipal elections, ANO secured victories in six regional capitals, a decline from its eight wins four years earlier. The party succeeded in cities such as Ostrava and Olomouc but lost ground in its former stronghold of Ústí nad Labem. Meanwhile, STAN and the People’s Party saw notable successes in larger urban areas. Analysts also noted losses for ODS, the Pirates, the Motorists and SPD, highlighting a growing divide between urban and rural voting patterns.

Why it matters

The vote shows shifting party strengths and a widening urban-rural political divide in the Czech Republic.
