Singapore has named Anthony Chen's film 'We Are All Strangers' as its official submission for the International Feature category at the 99th Academy Awards.
Singapore's Infocomm Media Development Authority confirmed that a committee of Singapore Film Commission Advisory Committee members chose Anthony Chen's 'We Are All Strangers' as the nation's entry for the International Feature category at the 99th Oscars. The film, set in contemporary Singapore, follows family dynamics and unexpected shifts, featuring Yeo Yann Yann, Koh Jia Ler, Andi Lim and Regene Lim. Earlier this year it broke new ground by entering the main competition at the Berlin Film Festival, the first Singaporean film to do so in the event's 76-year history.
After its August theatrical release in Singapore, the movie is now playing at the Toronto Film Festival, marking its North American debut. Paradise City Sales manages worldwide sales, and Film Movement holds the distribution rights for the United States and Canada. The selection highlights the culmination of Chen's decade-long Growing Up trilogy, which began with 'Ilo Ilo' and continued with 'Wet Season'.
