Anthropic chief devotes up to 40% of day to nurturing company culture
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei says he spends roughly a third to 40% of his time on culture rather than AI development.
During a recent podcast, Anthropic’s chief executive Dario Amodei revealed that a sizable portion of his daily schedule—between one-third and 40%—is dedicated to shaping the firm’s culture instead of technical work. The company, which reported a 50% rise in third-quarter revenue to $16.8 billion and is eyeing an IPO that could value it at up to $2 trillion, has grown to roughly 3,500 employees. Amodei said he cannot involve himself in every product decision, so he concentrates on aligning staff with the mission through bi-weekly “DVQ” all-hands meetings and a responsive Slack channel.
He likens his candid style to the radical transparency model popularized by Ray Dalio, aiming to avoid corporate jargon and keep employees informed. The approach comes as Anthropic updates its Responsible Scaling Policy and continues to advocate for AI regulation while competing with rivals such as OpenAI.
