Anthropic founders pledge to donate 80% of their equity stakes

The seven cofounders of Anthropic have committed to give away 80% of their personal shares, as disclosed in the company’s IPO filing.

In its S-1 filing, Anthropic disclosed that all seven of its cofounders have pledged to devote 80% of their personal equity to philanthropy. Collectively holding roughly 1.69 billion shares, the founders’ stakes represent a significant share of the firm’s market worth. The commitment is described as voluntary and revocable, with the timing and beneficiaries yet to be determined, and may be executed via charities, foundations or donor-advised funds.

Under the proposed governance model, the founders will still control just over half of the voting power through a special Founder LLC share, even if they sell most of their holdings. A separate Long-Term Benefit Trust would appoint a majority of the board. Anthropic reported $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026 and aims to list on Nasdaq as “ANT,” targeting a valuation in the $1.5-$2 trillion range.
