Anthropic inks $11.6 billion, seven-year CPU supply pact with Akamai
Anthropic PBC has agreed to a seven-year, $11.6 billion contract with Akamai Technologies for CPU computing power, plus a warrant for Series B shares.
Anthropic PBC signed a seven-year, $11.6 billion agreement with Akamai Technologies to secure CPU computing capacity for its AI services, building on a $1.8 billion deal made earlier in the year. Akamai will supply general-purpose processors that are seeing heightened use in data centers supporting artificial-intelligence workloads. The arrangement also grants Anthropic a warrant to buy 7.7 million Akamai common shares at $111.33 each, representing about 2 % of the firm’s stock.
Akamai projects the partnership will generate $150 million to $300 million in revenue next year, climbing to an annual run rate of roughly $1.7 billion by 2028. To fulfill the contract, Akamai plans about $5.5 billion in capital expenditures, mainly on servers, chips and networking gear, with most spending slated for the coming year. CEO Tom Leighton said the cloud business is growing extremely fast and could soon outpace other revenue streams.
Why it matters
The pact marks Akamai's biggest cloud deal, signaling major growth in AI-related computing and significant capital investment.
